| I would first like to take a minute to express my gratitude to all the people out there who have served in our armed forces since today is Veterans' Day. I cannot think of a more noble thing to do than to risk one's life for the sake of the rest of us living great, free lives in this country. I would especially like to pray for both of my Grandpas and my Grandma who were all in the service, and for my cousin Paul who will be enlisting in the Navy in a short while. I just ask that all of you reading this say a short prayer in thanksgiving for all of the veterans and for the safety of all the current soldiers.
Now, on to the sports news. According to Sammy Sosa's agent, Sosa will most likely remain a Cub next season. To be honest, I have lost all respect for this man. From his refusal to move down in the lineup when he was going through a horrendous slump to his leaving after the first inning of the season finale at home, he has acted like a big baby for the past season or so, and I really do not regard him with any esteem at all. He is not a team player, and I am surprised the Cubs are willing to put up with him any longer. This really doesn't bother me though, because we all know that whatever the Cubs do, it will just contribute to their futile season!! GO CARDINALS!!
Indiana Pacer Ron Artest was benched for a couple of games by his coach for asking to take as much as a month off to rest his aching body. Give me a break. The Pacers should just up and trade this guy. Sure, he's a pretty good ballplayer, but when you ask to take time off, it definitely shows that your priorities are elsewhere - such as his new rap album. He says the request "came out the wrong way." Come on, you're lazy and we all just found out. You don't want to work It's that simple. If playing basketball is so tough, please just leave the league - there are plenty of other young college players out there who would die to have that job, much less make the kind of money that you are making. | | |
| Well, it appears our little friend from Ohio State Maurice Clarett came forward to talk to ESPN the Magazine about receiving cars, cash, and improper benefits from Coach Jim Tressel and boosters. What a shocker!! Clarett says he protected the school from an NCAA probe last year by denying these facts, but now he wants to clear his name with the NFL so he's coming forward. I see: it's all about what Maurice wants. If it's good for him at the time, he's going to do it. He says he was protecting his teammates by denying it earlier, but he was in fact just helping himself. He was trying to get into the NFL draft, so why would he admit to this wrongdoing and hurt his chances of getting a pro job. This immature little man is the epitome of what is wrong with sports today.
Roger Clemens will add a seventh Cy Young award to his case of trophies after he received a majority of the first-place votes today. No disrespect to the guy (he is a great pitcher and all), but I think it should have went to Randy Johnson. Johnson was only 16-14, sure, but this was for a ball club that won only 51 games. He was 13-2 when Arizona scored more than two runs. If he had the run support that Clemens had most of the time, Johnson would have easily been a 20 game winner. Johnson also had 72 more strikeouts than Clemens and had a much lower baserunners/9 innings rating than Clemens did. Again, I definitely agree that Clemens is deserving of the award, but it really should have went to Johnson this year.
Dave Wannstedt resigns from the Miami Dolphins. Big surprise here!! I'm surprised he managed to coach such a pitiful excuse for a team for this long. Attention Steve Spurrier: your golf clubs are waiting for you in Miami.

| What's going on?!?
Well, I guess I'm a little late to the whole "blog" thing, but I figured I might as well give it a try. I am an avid sports fan so most of my posts will probably be related to the sporting news for the day, but I will also talk about current events and my life as a student at Notre Dame. Hopefully you find it interesting. Feel free to comment and offer suggestions - especially if you disagree with some of my points related to sports because I love a good argument!!
Have a good one,
